You should never sleep with your dentures in your mouth. Research has recently shown that denture wearing during sleep doubles the risk of pneumonia in the elderly. To avoid this risk, make sure to remove your dentures and properly care for them.
Our dentist, Dr. Chuck Majors, is passionate about oral health. Along with him our team at MajorSmiles in Bryan, Texas, want to make sure you know how to best take care of your dentures to avoid any unnecessary illness.
One of the best things that you can do to help your oral health is to remove your dentures when you sleep. If you keep your dentures in when you sleep you can increase the amount of inflammation in your mouth, as well as increase the chances of bacteria growth. An increase in inflammation can cause dentures to not fit, be uncomfortable to wear, and can potentially cause further damage to your mouth.
When you are sleeping, dentures should be stored in a cleaning solution or room temperature water. Dentures should be brushed once a day to help remove any plaque or bacteria buildup.
If you take care of your dentures you can have a healthy smile. If you have any questions about your oral health, call us today at 979-776-6600 and schedule your appointment. We can’t wait to see you in our office.
